Make a Difference in the 2026 Midterm Elections

Free and fair elections depend on everyday Americans stepping up. Whether you can serve for a few minutes or a few days, you can make a real impact in keeping our elections free, fair, safe, and accessible.

Why Election Volunteers Matter

Elections rely on thousands of people who ensure voting runs smoothly, safely, and fairly. From helping voters find their polling place to supporting election workers and sharing accurate voter information, these roles strengthen public trust in the democratic process.

Strong elections are not just a civic concern — they are a Jewish one.

When our elections are safe, accessible, and trustworthy, we help build a democracy where Jewish communities can thrive. Participation in election infrastructure is a natural extension of these values. People like you make our elections work.

Ways you can support this election:

  • Poll workers are essential to running safe, trusted, and accessible elections. Without enough trained poll workers, communities can face long lines, reduced access, or limited voting hours.

  • Most people can serve as a poll worker (and sometimes… get paid to do it)! Retirees, students, first-time volunteers, and working professionals can all play a role.

  • Training is typically required in advance, followed by one or more shifts during early voting or on Election Day. Exact commitments vary by state and county.

Serve as a poll chaplain

  • Poll chaplains help create calm, supportive environments at polling places during high-stress moments. Their presence can reduce tension, support voters and workers, and strengthen community trust.

  • Jewish clergy and faith leaders, spiritual care providers, and trusted community members with strong listening and de-escalation skills are especially well suited for this role.

  • Most opportunities involve a short training and scheduled shifts during early voting or Election Day, often in coordination with local partners.

  • Election officials increasingly face threats, harassment, intimidation, and interference that can undermine their ability to administer elections safely and effectively. Access to pro bono legal support helps protect election officials, uphold the rule of law, and ensure elections are administered fairly, securely, and in accordance with democratic processes.

  • Lawyers, law students, retired legal professionals, and individuals with election policy or compliance experience may be able to assist depending on program needs.

  • Time commitment varies. The Election Official Legal Defense Network (EOLDN) works to connect election officials with attorneys who have the right expertise for their needs. Support can range from helping officials respond to threats and harassment to drafting cease and desist letters and providing broader legal guidance.

Build relationships with election officials

  • Strong relationships between communities and election officials help build trust, improve communication, and strengthen local democratic infrastructure.

  • Jewish organizations are especially poised to do this work as pillars in their local community, but anyone who cares about civic participation can help — think community leaders, organizers, clergy, and people with strong local networks.

  • This work is flexible and relationship-based, ranging from occasional outreach to more sustained engagement. We recommend starting early so trusted relationships are already in place by Election Day.

Be a trusted messenger

  • People are more likely to engage with accurate information when it comes from someone they know and trust. Trusted messengers help counter confusion, build confidence, and encourage participation.

  • Jewish community leaders, educators, clergy, creators, volunteers, and everyday people with strong personal networks can all make an impact.

  • Engagement can be as simple as sharing information within your community or as involved as participating in trainings, events, or public education efforts.
